FLORIN & FLOREN

The name “FLORIN” originates from a British nurse, social reformer, and statistician Florence Nightingale (1820-1910) who is widely regarded as the founder of modern nursing. She is also known as “The Lady with the Lamp” because of her habit of making rounds at night to tend to wounded soldiers during the Crimean War.

She became interested in nursing and healthcare while traveling in Europe in the 1850s, and in 1854 she was recruited by the British government to lead a group of nurses to care for British soldiers wounded in the Crimean War.

During her time in Crimea, Nightingale instituted significant improvements in the conditions of the hospitals, reducing the mortality rate from 40% to 2%. She also developed statistical methods to analyze health data, and her work in this area contributed to the development of the field of biostatistics. Nightingale recognized the importance of data and evidence-based practice in healthcare, and she was a pioneer in using statistical analysis to inform public health policy. She was a trailblazer for women’s rights and social justice, and her legacy continues to inspire generations of nurses, healthcare workers, and activists around the world.
